Prepared by maceration of the dried root of greater gentian in cooked wine.
The greater gentian or lutea is spontaneous on humid mountain soils above 1000 meters of altitude. Gentian root is known for its digestive qualities and for a characteristic bitter taste of pleasant and long persistence.
