Wine is an alcoholic beverage obtained from the fermentation of grape must. The production of wine begins with the harvesting and pressing of the grapes, which are then fermented with the help of selected yeasts. Fermentation transforms the sugar present in the must into alcohol and carbon dioxide. The wine is then bottled or sent for aging in oak or steel barrels. The type of wine and its taste are influenced by many factors, such as the grape variety used, the climate and the soil in which the grapes are grown, the production process and ageing. Some of the more famous regions for wine production include France, Italy, Spain, California and Australia.
