Umakara, dry by tradition, smooth to discover
Tentaka Umakara is the sake that fully honors the founder’s belief: “It isn’t sake unless it’s dry!” Yet behind this bold, decisive signature, it remains surprisingly smooth and fresh, with a clean, easy-drinking palate that naturally invites another sip—especially with food. Its quality has also been recognized internationally, winning two awards at IWC 2018 in the Futsushu category: Great Value and Trophy.
It is crafted at Tentaka Shuzō in Ohtawara, Tochigi Prefecture, an area surrounded by nature and naturally suited to sake brewing. The climate, with hot summers and cold winters, creates ideal conditions for fermentation; its location on the delta between the Naka and Houki rivers tells a long history of rice cultivation; and the pure water drawn from the underground sources of Mount Nasu completes the picture, providing the perfect foundation for a crisp, harmonious profile. Faithful to its origins yet open to evolution, the brewery delivers a dry, food-friendly futsushu with remarkable balance—ideal for anyone looking for a truly well-made everyday sake.
