Aka Torii is a Japanese craft gin produced by the Mitsutake Shuzojo distillery in Saga Prefecture. This gin stands out for its use of local botanicals that provide a distinctly Japanese essence. The Original version combines five main ingredients: juniper berries, cedar, lemon peel, orange peel, and Japanese tea, offering a refreshing citrus aroma with a subtle hint of cedar. The Premium version further enriches the flavor profile by adding Japanese pepper (sansho), wasabi, nori seaweed, and oyster, totaling 11 ingredients, creating a mysterious and uniquely Japanese taste.
A fundamental element in the production of Aka Torii is the pure water from the natural springs of the Tara Mountains; the rich natural environment contributes to sweet and delicate water, giving the gin its unique flavor.
The name "Aka Torii" pays homage to the path of red torii gates at the Yutoku Inari Shrine, a symbol of Kashima City in Saga Prefecture. These traditionally red torii gates are iconic elements of Shinto architecture and represent the entrance to sacred places. The path of red torii gates at Yutoku Inari Shrine is particularly beloved and recognized as a local symbol.
Aka Torii represents the fusion of Japanese tradition and innovation, offering a unique sensory experience to gin enthusiasts.
