Santa10 is an 8.5 hectare farm in the municipality of Siena, on the first hill south-east of the city. The village consists of the medieval watchtower transformed into a manor house in the 19th century, the farm with the rural outbuildings and the ancient underground cellars. It is an organic company. The soil is tufaceous, marine fossil sand, clayey at depth, about 300 meters above sea level. The vineyards cover 2 and a half hectares of surface area. 1 and a half hectares were replanted in 2003 with the first harvest in 2007. In 2019, an additional 1 hectare of Trebbiano was planted. The prevalent vines are Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Colorino and Trebbiano, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc to a lesser extent. The specialized olive grove, with 400 olive trees, represents almost all of the olive groves; the remainder are randomly scattered across the land, a legacy of the previous promiscuous cultivation.
HISTORY
In 1994 Gianni began to follow the family agricultural land, continuing the production of wine, extra virgin olive oil and arable land of his mother and grandfather.
At the beginning of the 2000s, having restored the FIAT 605 tractor, he decided to replant the vineyards that were more than fifty years old with native vines (sangiovese, canaiolo, ciliegiolo, colorino and trebbiano) with a small insertion out of "curiosity" of petit verdot and cabernet, to merge the olive trees into a single specialized plant, to plant 50 fruit trees recovering ancient species and to restore the ancient cellars and cellars of the medieval tower.
In 2007 Santa10 thus obtained the first production of natural red wine, exploiting the qualities of the yellow earth of Siena and refining the winemaking methods.
The result is that Santa10 now has a production of around 8,000 bottles which Gianni, Elisa, Tommaso and Teresa bring to the world.
